Dear all,
When I was a young teacher in Japan without a television, I read more than forty books a year, including the investigative tome on the AIDS epidemic, And the Band Played On. Fast forward to the age of binge-watching and endless scrolling, and I’m lucky if I manage twelve books a year. Recently, however, I’ve felt a shift in myself, no doubt influenced by a broader cultural return to reading. I’m a girl shaped by fashion and trends, so this year I’m setting a new goal: at least twenty books in 2026. Or perhaps twenty-six in ’26, and I’ll start a trend of my own.
